…xoxo, GOSSIP GIRL – part 2

Of course we couldn’t leave out from our Gossip Girl topic, Blair, Serena’s best friend, aka Leighton Meester. After the protagonist of the young series, Serena that we talked about last week, Blair is here as well to be admired for her style.

Once more we come to deal with the phenomenon of blondes vs brunettes. In the opposite side of the tall blonde girl, Serena, we have Blair, the spicy brunette that comes to prove the myth right regarding the contrast. Blair is a difficult character and rather spoiled; a native Manhattan girl, daughter of a very well-known fashion designer, a prom-queen and of course born leader. The worth noticing here is that despite her difficult character you can’t completely dislike her since through her anger or cryings she always expresses a girly sweetness.  Regarding her style, like we said previously for Serena, stylists know their job well. Blair is a girl to be chic and a princess at all times, even when she is sleeping or crying, even when she begs or falls down.

Main characteristic of her style is the headbands and the bows. A line to remember to one of her followers is that she is when she pulls off her headband and says she is the only one to wear them, because that’s her crown. And it doesn’t end here. When Blair isn’t feeling well she goes shopping to the most expensive Manhattan boutiques and maybe she is the only one to announce big fashion designers in her lines.

Her style in general? Simply significant! She has a retro aesthetic very well combined with stylish pieces. She does remind figures of the 40s and 50s and that’s what she communicates from the first season of the series till now. The retro style she is following makes her look like a princess and matches her role so perfectly well.  There are even times that she reminds us of Audrey Hepburn… that alone makes her adorable.

In her everyday outfits Blair prefers dresses and expensive high heels, coats and tweed jackets and all of that she lately pairs them with lace, opaque or colorful tights.  Her bags are only the expensive ones, she would never hold anything less than a Hermes Birkin Bag or a Chanel. And she always gives the last touch with expensive jewelry and fancy headbands or bows that mix nicely in her brunette curls.

In her dinner dress she is the one to be chic in haute couture. (Unforgettable with her red Oscar de la Renta) She really looks like a princess, even when she cries at her best friend’s arms – because always something is happening – she is every girls dream, like a Cinderella. Just like Coco Chanel used to say: « Always be well dressed. Even when begging»!

Coming back to you now, if you wish to follow this style, it would be best to go to mom’s closet and dig out vintage pieces, like jackets, tweed jackets, silk shirts and of course the bags. Add tights, headbands and bows, pearls and high heels, or ballet shoes. This way you will succeed the new-retro look. Last but not least, regarding Blair’s dinner dresses would be difficult for us to achieve, since we are talking for very expensive pieces, but this can never stop us from gazing at girls like Blair. Who wouldn’t want to live even for a night Cinderella’s story?!
