Toms shoes: One for me, but most of all, one for you!!

It all started in 2006 when American traveller Blake Mycoskie, visited a village in Argentina and realized that little children in that village, could not cover their basic needs, such as clothing and footwear, hence protection. They had no shoes. He saw many diseases there, such as gangrene etc., that we all have heard of but none of us can imagine what’s that like. To help those children, he decided to create his company, TOMS shoes, that has given away 1.000.000 pairs of new shoes through Shoe Drops. His work doesn’t stop there. Every year, in many cities around the world «One day without shoes» takes place. It took place this year here in Athens too, at the begining of April, at Kolonaki, where many famous – and non famous of course- pleople walked barefoot around the square, to show that they support those children and also ti inspire other people and increase the condributions. The most important thing in this whole story, is that Blake Mycoskie has nothing to do with fashion industry and yet he managed to turn the most unselfish thought a man ever had into “fashion”, within a few years. We have all been marketing victims from time to time, but this time we should be proud of ourselves to buy a pair TOMS shoes. Why? Because when you buy a pair of TOMS shoes you give another one to a little child that needs it, not because they want to be “in” fashion, but because they need to walk safely. This thought is enough to make us want to be marketing victims this time. Do not forget that many children out there are victims of several incurable diseases.

Blake used the most well known marketing way to make his shoes “in” fashion. What is that? He approached famous women and informed them for his work and the rest is just history. His shoes have made a stir. After Mary Kate Olsen, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, Liv Tyler, Mila Kunis, Julia Roberts – and lots of men, since TOMS are unisex) wore them, all the fashionistas around the world run to buy a pair of TOMS.

There is only one design, but you can find a lot of colours and prints. TOMS remind us of the espadrilles or cloth shoes we all used to wear when we were kids. None of us can deny we loved them and remember them everytime we see a little girl wearing them. You may try lots of different styles with TOMS. From sporty look, with shorts and tank tops, to skinny jeans and coloured skinny pants – always with folded legs, as we told you before - if you can handle the heat. TOMS look also great with ethereal mini dresses – floral, stripes and polka dots are very cute – pencil skirts and boho maxi dresses.
TOMS are really easy to match, so you can wear them anyway you want and remember with every step you take that you made a child happy. I have tried them on and I have to tell you that they are the most comfortable shoes in the world. Nothing happens by chance! Isn’t that right Mr. Blake?
