Anna Economou bags

We’ve met Anna Economou through the Whitebox team and fell in love with her bags! Retro meets Modern and especially the bags “I love/hate Athens” are the best gifts you can offer these days! We’ve asked Anna to write about her work and personality and today we are proud to present her creations to you!

“I love nature, traveling and exploring the world! Everywhere I stand, from MOMA in New York to a tropical forest in the Amazon, I want to make bags with flowers, leafs, photos…perfumes and aura from the places I’ve visited.

A bag is something that we all use when we “leave” to go anywhere. If a bag could speak, it would surely say a lot of things… It fascinates me the way that every bag has a long story to tell. A story from all the places it had visited in the past.

I was born in Athens. I’ve studied fashion design here and in Copenhagen where I lived for 6 years. I was awarded for my creations, I did catwalk shows but as always I wanted to leave! I always cared more about traveling than making a stable career. Despite that fact, I live in Athens for many years now where I design and create bags and accessories.

There is nothing that I can’t make with my favorite sewing machine (PHAFF-mod 1976/made in East Germany, a gift from my grandmother). Everything around each bag, revolves around me. From the idea, the sewing and the production…I do it all by myself and that’s why each bag is special and my bags are limited and numbered. Another thing is that the customer can add his own ideas in the bags. I love it when something like that happens as I find it really important to create bags that will reflect a person’s character.

I use a simple bag as a canvas and then I add flowers, pictures and drawings on top. That way, every bag is special. You can find my creations in numerous stores around Athens and Greece. Whitebox is my base. Along with other 6 creators we decided to make this creative space in order to have a “home” for our creations. I also give my bags at etsy shos. Lately you can find my bags at ELSAHATS etsy shop.
