Winter Colours
Did you know this?, Follow trends | Clio Alevizopoulou | Thursday, October 1st, 2009 at 11:10
This winter, the fashion designers’ palettes resemble the palettes of painters. They include all basic colours but also many new colours. Although at first, you will see white, black, grey, blue and nude, suddenly they all transform into strong red, fuchsia, vivid green and endless floral patterns.
Black & White

Black and white was presented by Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel for the “conservative” fans of this style. On the other hand, black played a major role on the runways, giving us the impression of the bad girl who likes rock music even at her 30s. Black leather jackets , outfits and even dresses tell you to express your “power”. Gucci, Nina Ricci, Givenchy, and Yves Saint Laurent are the main “representatives” of this look.
Grey

Grey reminds us of strict office costumes, like those of Gucci, Burberry, and Armani. However, other labels, such as Antonio Berardi, Louis Vuitton and Julien McDonald, used this dull colour in sexy and classy dresses that emphasise the beauty of the female curves.
Blue

This year, blue was one of the most favourite colours both for designers and for all of us, who chose to wear it on dresses with sequins, (Balmain), on wonderful fabrics such as silk (Marios Schwab) fur (Valentino) or metal (Gucci), while designers created even coats (Marc Jacobs).
Nude

Nude colours are the colours of the skin. You can achieve a very chic and sexy look if you combine it with black details. Nude colours are everywhere: from elegant evening dresses reminding of divas during the 30s (Alberta Ferretti, Dior) to cocktail dresses (Miu Miu) and coats (Jil Sander).
Colours

The protagonist is scarlet red and fashion designers call us to dare wearing it in order to emphasise our femininity (Dior, Versace, Nina Ricci, Gucci). As for the colours that are even stronger, such as fuchsia, yellow, turquoise and lime, you should be very careful with them. The trend? Back to 80’s! Therefore, be careful and if you are not 100% sure about your choices, by-pass the trend because you might end up looking as if you came out of a time-machine. But do have a look at the following collections: Marc Jacobs, Emanuel Ungaro, Blumarine και Iceberg!
Florals

Mutlicoloured clothes either with animal prints or folklore florals manage to break the monotony of dark winter colours. Psychedelic 70s designs by Etro; almost folklore by John Galliano; abstract designs by Balenciaga and vivid colours on sharp patterns by Louis Vuitton from a Marc Jacobs, who loves 80s and declares it!
Do’s & Don’ts
Do’s: Dare wearing colours, but if you don’t feel very comfortable, choose colourful accessories: handbags, scarves, jewelery. During winter, colours can play a psychotherapeutic role.
Don’ts: Don’t try to copy what you see on the runways, because if you are not sure about what you will wear, it will be an extravagance and the outcome may even look funny.
