Shop of the week: Bohbo

Here at ermoumag, we have many readers asking us the same question over and over again: “Why aren’t there any good second-hand shops in Athens?” Well, lets face it, up until a few years ago, we Greek people didn’t even know what a second-hand shop is. And even today, where most international celebs are always bragging about their vintage finds, here in Greece we’re still holding back.

Until we discover a little gem like Bohbo that is. It was love at first sight, and it’s not hard to see why: The owner Mandica Iljic might be of Croatian origin, but living in Germany and working in the fashion industry as a model booker, she grew to love second-hand shopping. “It’s very interesting just looking around in a vintage shop, not knowing what you might discover. One day you won’t be able to find a single interesting thing, and the next you might dig out a vintage Chanel purse, in a price you can afford. Moreover, you acquire really special and unique pieces, that no-on else has.” she told us abput her second-hand shopping experiences abroad. That’s way when she moved to Greece and found out there were little to none second-hand shops, she decided to make a job out of what she loves and open her own little second-hand boutique.

In Bohbo (short for bohemian-bourgeois in french) you will find clothes, bags, shoes, accessories and jewelery almost exclusivly by famous brands like Gucci, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Jimmy Choo, Prada. Mandica is very selective and she picks only what’s in perfect condition for her store, even some that have never been worn, and offers them to her customers in prices way lower than retail.

The shop is very cosy and warm, as is the owner. Mandica will make you feel welcome and at ease, but at the same time she will be brutally honest with you if something doesn’t suit you. She believes that clothes are supposed to be loved and worn, and not stay inside a closet. “Something that didn’t work for someone, may be someone else’s dream buy!”

We have to warn you though, once you enter the store, you will be mesmerised by Bohbo’s many one-of-a-kind finds…

And if you are more of a shoe-person (who isn’t, anyway) you just found heaven! Can you see the Louboutins in the following picture? Let us help, they’re the black patent wedge pumps right next to the Vera Wang flat peep-toes, and they cost less than 1/3 of the original retail price!
