Boys go to Milan
Fashion News | Anthi Papageorgiou | 29/06/2009 at 09:44Milan Fashion Week
Last week was not just another week of a typical month. It was Milan Fashion Week for menswear in which spring/summer 2010 collection were presented. Milan is the fashion capital and when fashion shows and events happen there they are considered something more than plain shows. Hundreds of fashion shows attract thousands of fashion journalists from around the world and even more buyers. Fashion shows and events take place in several locations scattered in the Italian city. However because of the economic crisis the shows are fewer and companies have become more moderate as far as the shows and not only are considered. Still Milan’s Fashion Week remains one of the top.
The shows
During these four days (20th – 21st – 22nd – 23rd June) shows were presented by designers such as ….
Dolce & Gabbana: The highly successful duet presented his suggestions ispired by the Wild West, sand was brought and placed on the runway. The models wore worn jeans and jackets referring to cowboys and spagheti westerns.

DSquared were inspired by fishermen and hikers. They had boots combined with orange and yellow socks and raincoats and neon colour ponchos. Hmm … interesting at least …

This abstention from dark and squared jackets and collars and strict ties continues with Armani house, whose show opened with the Guinness Book of World Records-holder, biker Vittorio Brumotti. The feeling of relaxiness was expressed by suits in shades of beige and Biscuit. And leather red jackets and my favourite red trousers.

The same “summer pattern” is followed by the house of Etro. Suits in soft summer colors and pink shirts and handkerchiefs. Shorts in many colors, mixed with each other, like a caleidoscope.

Miuccia Prada thought of «black and white films, and gray suits» as she stated to the International Herald Tribune regarding to male collections for summer 2010. The models wore grey suits and white shirts, cardigans and layers in the shades of gray and black.

Alexander McQueen did this year a 180o turn concerning not only his designs but also the presentation of his collections. He did not do a show but a plain presentation of the clothes. Trousers were crumpled, boasted a handprint on the hip or featured splatters of paint down the leg. Cardigans came with their own ready-made, worn-out holes according to the VOGUE report. Once again great designs by a great designer.

Editor’s opinion
Fashion for men is like cars for women. And I am sure all those fashion weeks will “terrify” many of the male readers but do not forget that the thing is not to be a blind follower of fashion, and that goes for boys and girls. The point is to have style, as the Buzzcocks have said before me. Wear jeans and T-shirt every day, but one Sunday, wear those tight red trousers with your white shirt and you will not regret it. Trust me…
